I think that many of these developers have (probably) pitched game ideas like these to publishers before but, at the time, they were determined to be too risky. This generation, the high development costs on the HD consoles compared to releasing similar games for the Wii, has changed how people see the risk of games like these.

In order to explain what I mean, producing a game like The Conduit or De Blob for the Wii (probably) costs about the same as producing a Sponge-Bob game for the HD consoles; even if you sell the same number of copies for each game, being that the Sponge-Bob game would have IP licencing and you (might) develop a valueable IP with De Blob or The Conduit, it makes more sense to put money towards the Wii games.
