I just saw this post. I had a roommate in college that had this problem too. It was over heating problems. Run your computer with the case sides off, and a box fan blowing in. If it runs the programs without shutting down you know that is the issue. Then you can get some new pc fans/heat sinks, re-run cables, and clean up dust. You might end up needing a new case.
