To be honest, I do not devote much time to studying the relations between Indonesia and Australia. What I do know, however, is that their relationship is lukewarm. Numerous bombings that have occurred in Indonesia, including the 04 Australian embassy bombings, have killed an inordinate number of Australians. These attacks were perpetrated by a group known as “Jemaah Islamiyah.” The cleric mentioned in the article, Abubakr Baasyir, is believed to be a leader of the group. For whatever reason, this group has a disdain for Australia.
