I dont the ps3 is a failure I think its lost in the shadow of the PS2 success which was GIGANTIC. When you compare PS2 to PS3 you might see the issue. But the PS3 on its own is doing ok.
PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.
