It's like this: Last gen, the Xbox was THE powerhouse system. Even to those who wouldn't by one (like me), it was considered elite territory. Halo was legendary, even amongst non Xbox owners. Microsoft's toy had an incredible reputation for power and durability.

I wanted a PS3, but I couldn't find one. I (and I'm sure there were others) considered that I bought two Ps1's and three Ps2's. Paying $500-$600 for a system that would probably brick wasn't an interesting prospect. Combined with unprecedented anti-sony sentiment, lack of must have games, 360's head start, and Gears of War, it becomes easier to see how the 360 got a foothold. Word of mouth, advertisements, quality titles, demo kiosks, similar features, and relatively low price fueled the flame.

But damn if I didn't feel foolish when Microsoft was the defective console maker and Sony built the reliable one!
