With his "terrorism" claims, McCain was trying to get attentions away from the economy, but he failed miserably. By invoking deep-rooted fears such as "terrorism", it should be obvious that this reaction from the GOP's radical base could happen.
It was a quite bad campaign move, and one that he might regret later.
