What Nolan is "doing" with Batman is what the comics writers have been doing for 2 decades. The cheesy Burton flicks were crap, going along with the campy image Batman had shed long ago. Trust me, Batman movies need no vision, there are a lot of great stories, with characters already well-defined for a Director to work on.
What will establish Nolan as a Director are more movies like "the prestige".
"The accumulated filth of all their sex and murders will foam up about their waist and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"...
....and I'll look down and whisper "no."
