I always thought the Saturn was more powerful than the Playstation. This was evident particularly with 2D fighting. I had the Japanese import of X-Men vs Street Fighter for the Saturn and the US PS1 version. In the Saturn version you could tag in your secondary character, whereas in the Playstation version this could not be implemented due to the specs making the PS1 version the lesser of the two. I've been Pro Sony since those days but I still knew the Saturn was more powerful than the Playstation.

In fact ,this happened in 2d fighting games because those came with a Ram cartridge in the Saturn version. The Ram cartridgne boosted the Saturn RAM and allowed for that buffering of the secondary character. There were also some more frames added and better detail in the shadows.Outside these rare 2D fighting games that came with a cartridge add-on the PSX trounced the Saturn in every genre.Out of the box the PSX was more powerful, and it can be easily seen with the first generation games for both consoles ...and the last games on both too.Tekken trounced graphically Virtua Fighter 1 ,Tekken 2 trounced VF2,Wipeout trounced the hovering games on the Saturn ,Resident Evil PSX was superior to the Saturn offering that had a decent version years later but with less solid graphics ,Wipeout Saturn was worse that PSX Wipeout ,Tomb Raider looked better in the PSX although the Saturn was the lead plattform ...etc etc.
