For the same reason that some PS2 fans still cling to the myth that it was the most powerful - people seem to get very emotional about the notion that the console that provided them so much entertainment could be anything but the best. I think as gamers we are very attached to both the concept of high scores and winning; and having invested so much in the console we own, we have an irrational desire for it to have the best numbers.

 

This is all complicated by the fact that there is an enormous amount of misinformation about the powers of various systems out there, born both of non-technical people failing to understand the workings of a console, and of fanboys engaging in wishful thinking.
