From what I've just read on another forum (I don't own the game unfortunately), the syrup is found in the bathroom. There should be a white thingy above the place where change the dippers and the syrup should be in it.
As for the errands, people seem to talk about objects to be ordered on the computer and the delivered the next day in the mail. I don't know if that answers your question.

If you check the "Answers", you'll see that zonk33 has already been to Gamefaqs 
. Although you're right that Gamefaqs boards are the better place to ask questions that this new "Answers" feature.
