It has to do with the fact the bluray costs so damn much while providing marginal benefits.

If it has marginal benefits, why, when I have to choose between the DVD edition or the bluray edition, do I always pick the bluray one? Once you tried it, it's hard to get back to the DVD.

 

That is you.  Others do not feel the same way.  I certainly don't.  I have invested tons in HD -    HD projector, HD camcorder, HD player, HD satellite box with HD additional subsription fee.  The only thing I don't have is a HD console.  And for me it is easy to go back because to me the improvements in HD movies over DVD are only marginal.  If it cost the same then it would be a different issue.  I am not suggesting it is the case with you but the reason so many people seem to see blu ray as the greatest thing since sliced bread is not because of the improvements over DVD but because their love for Sony makes them see things through Sony rose tinted glasses.
