The problem with that straterfy is wait to long and MS has to much strength to kill with the death blow. 360 has been out three years and has been in the lead (the first year no next gen competation), if it can keep the lead through 2009 it wont matter if sony comes in the big blow cause its too late with the WII supposed HD launch in 2011 expect MS to launch around then. 2010 Sony takes over its too late the next gen will be starting up |
That's right: but Sony must only avoid overkill, they must try to gain again some ground, but giving MS the impression that its advantage may last still quite a long time until PS3 is strong enough to attack without risking a pyrrhic victory. So a huge price cut now would definitely risk overkill, while a smaller cut, just to regain a little WW lead in case XB360 nice period lasts longer, would be fine, and anyway, if PS3 yearly sales are already higher than Sony's predictions, a Xmas demand much higher couldn't be met, so a big price cut would be wasted. I say Sony must build up strength before really hitting also because it looks like, not considering PR hype, it didn't really predict its sales could be so much better than last year, so now they are unprepared to fully deploy their strength, and not having produced enough to have further costs reduction before Xmas (one happened anyway with the new autumn list prices for components, bud predicting and ordering bigger quantities more early they could have negotiated further reductions that they won't obtain if they are forced to ask them now, pressed and unable to negotiate), it would be very expensive too. So I agree that Sony really must avoid MS widens again the gap, but for the moment without trying stronger actions. facts may prove me wrong, anyway, if Sony managed to hide to us and, more important, to MS, an higher strength than it appears.
