No way on earth. Sony have *no way* of knowing the real sales figures - maybe he means "sales to retailers" - retailers never pass their sales figures back to manufacturers, they just place more orders when they feel like it (i.e. either when they run out, or when they want to stockpile). Sony have never quoted "consumer sales" figures.
