I can't believe MS will be so dumb, their credibility would go under zero, If they think that supporting a platform for 10 years is excessive, I could understand them, although I find reassuring Sony doing so, but a lifespan of only 5 years is too short, it would make unhappy both users and developers developers developers developers...
