Yeah, eMachines are some of the lousiest PCs you can find. They almost never have problems with running alone, but upgrading is practically impossible.
Although there's no reason you shouldn't be able to just remove the RAM it currently has and put new in there.
You NEVER combine different types of RAM in correlating slots, unless they just happen to be the same speed.
