Having owned both the 360 and the PS3 I have to say that the Playstation 3 is the better choice. I bought both systems a launch and was very excited about the 360 (before the red rings of death and) until I got my PS3.
While the 360 is a good purchase the PS3 is a great investment. After playing Restance Fall of Man and Motorstorm I saw the awesome potential that the PS3 has to offer. I sold my 360 and used the money to pay for preorders for the 3. Most all of the games that are coming out for 360 that I am interested in are also coming out for PC so I have no regrets about letting the console go. Also the Wi-Fi adaptor and the wireless headset for 360 did not meet my standards, but with the built in Wi-Fi and the Bluetooth headset that the Playstation offers I have been more than happy.
Microsoft also made a huge mistake staying with DVD as a storage format, with this generation of games developers need more space to make truly exceptional games. And with the recent announcement that 360 games are going to require the HDD to run Blu-Ray seems to already be proving itself as necessary for games. This announcement also made me feel more confident about my decision to get rid of the 360.
With the game line up that Sony has to offer this fall and through the winter from its first party studios (Lair, Heavenly Sword- the demo is amazing, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Gran-Turismo, and Killzone 2, not to mention the Playstation Network Games like Echo chrome, Pain, Bowling, and my current favorite Calling all Cars) and the more recent 3rd party development support (Unreal Tournament 3/Unreal Engine, Haze, MGS4, FFXII, Heavy Rain, and also Rockstar working on an Exclusive) I feel that PS3 is going to have far superior gaming experiences for the duration of this generation of these consoles.
The 360 dose currently have more games to buy due to the year head start, but I prefer quality over quantity. The lack of games to choose from is the only complaint that I have for the PS3 and that is only temporary.

I have always been a little confused as to how the 360 is cheaper than the PS3, and as far as price the Wii is obviously cheaper.
I hope all of this info is helpful. -40cal-
