Did you ever try to check out Planetes?
It's a really awesome anime about people collecting debris in space. No meccha's, laser beams or massive action sequences. Just a man, a woman, love, friendship and a dream of a spaceship.
It's got some nice music, and space is silent except for radio-chatter. Which is always awesome.
It's one of my favorites. Pretty old now, I guess.
