Actually, come to think of it, I don't think I know anyone who doesn't have a DVR. Even my parents and grandma have one and they live in the middle of BFE.
Also remember who the PS3 is catering too: the people with too much money to waste and people who are already interested in these sort of things.
I know there are people that do exist that do not have a DVR and has or plans to get a PS3, but they really aren't the majority and I doubt that's the selling factor.
