HDMI actually has no real technical advantage over component, you get the same quality picture. The cool thing about HDMI is it carries both audio and video in the same connection. The studios chose HDMI for HDDVD and BlueRay because of it's copyright protection.

I recommend everyone use VGA if your tv supports it. It's the best connection you can use.

really I thought it was the RGB one (the 3 connector one I mean)

so basicaly a good picture connection plus a optical for sound is still better than HDMI ???

thanks for the info

Um... isn't VGA still inherently analog? For digital panels that means converting the digital signal to analog, then back to digital. As such, there may be a smidgen of signal loss, but then again, I have connected my gaming PC to LCDs with HDMI/DVI and VGA and I'd be lying if I could tell any difference at all, testament to the oustanding design incredible longevity of VGA connectors.

DVI and HDMI are true digital, which means there is no encoding/decoding. By definition they should be the best connection types to channel digital signals from the source to the target.

HDMI/DVI > VGA > Component > S-Video > Composite > Coaxial
