Yeah you read my mind what we pay for the propertery hard drives no one is going to dump theres for the new one, plus even if your old one goes you could get an arcade and just moe your hard drive which you couldnt do with the new slimline. No way is MS going to stop with the properity HDD at least not in this Gen round. I like the 45nm idea and maybe the drive fits on a different way

You guys don't really believe that a slimline console would accept the old hard drives, considering their size, do you? Trying to design a new slim version of a console so that a huge previous-model drive casing could be attached doesn't make any sense. The high power requirements alone would be a barrier. Just plugging one of those monsters onto the end of a slimline 360 might tip the thing over.
I can buy the argument that MS might very well decide to keep making money off a new slimline-compatible drive by placing it into a custom package that only they sell, but it would likely be dramatically smaller (particularly if they used solid state drives or the tiny drives in an iPod), and they would just include a cable to transfer data from the old drive to the new. Most likely this new drive would just plug into a proprietary socket similar to something a flash card would use.
Just think about what you're saying... if they REALLY want to make more money with a new slimline model, then allowing people to keep their old drives isn't going to make them as much money.
