That looks like rhythmbox. It's a gnome program, I think? I didn't know it worked with ipods though...I'll have to check that out..
Also, fluxbox is very quick to start up (because you're hardly starting anything), but if you want to customize things you can't be afraid of editing text files to do that. Fluxbox doesn't really have any built in programs like a file manager and the like either, so you'd have to use something like rox, nautilus (gnome's file manager), or thunar (xfce's file manager) or something like that.
I haven't used gnome on my PS3 so I can't really comment on its performance vs. fluxbox though.
