I'm sure some of you used to play games a while back when every game was max like 5 hours on consoles, where you had to play through the whole game in one go. To say that this is a new trend developing because of new consoles and how much games cost is to ignore most games in the past. The majority of games are pretty short, people somehow tend to ignore that and continue with this whole 'graphics are killing my games' nonsense... |
I think a lot of people missed the point. There is room on the discs for the larger games, but not as much room in the development budget. I think it is fairly obvious that PS3/360 games are going to be a bit shorter than Wii games in part due to the sheer amount of effort required to get games looking as nice as the consumers for those consoles want them to look. I don't think we are going to see games regularly 10-15 hours but probably in the 20-30 hour range which is still very respectable and honestly not much different from last gen.
I think the difference is going to come more from longer Wii games than from shorter 360/PS3 games actually. In part due to the extra development cash, and in part due to the fact that the games are different genres/styles.
But this is all speculation from both side, so honestly I wouldn't be surprised either way. But I do think there are reasons to believe game lengths will be different from console to console on the average...for whatever reasons.
