He focused too much on the past of Iraq and never adressed why a fixed timetable wouldn't be a problem... and not backing off sending troops into a democratic country was something that were going to turn people off.

I really liked the Debate format too... one of the best i've seen.

 

I think he focused on the past because he wanted to showcase that he has made the correct judgements on major foreign policy issues. I believe Obama was stressing the popular saying, "past behavior is the best portend of future conduct," to highlight that his judgement is better than McCain's.
