@thekitchensink

When I told him I adressed that in my post, I was referring to this.

"Note: This is all opinion and I hope those who reply take that into consideration before they surely flame me to hell. Also this is in the Sony forum because I'm talking about the first game of the series."

And yes, it is my opinion that if this game was stripped of it's "Disney" ties, and released as a normal RPG, it wouldn't be regarded as a masterpiece.

"Yes, the game fools you. The 86.5 average on Gamerankings means nothing."

So what? Radiata Stories has a 76, and Star Ocean 2 has a 79; and I think that both of those games deserve at least an 86.5%. Dragon Warrior VII is around 80 and I think it should have a 95 average, but really, what are these numbers anyway? The cumulative scores of random people who may or may not be biased?

Oh, I get it now! It's been a ruse all this time! People play Kingdom Hearts and THINK that they love it, THINK that they came away with an amazing story, THINK that there were interesting characters, THINK that the combat was fast and fun, but in reality they're completely wrong!

Thanks for the englightenment!

No problem. Glad at least someone agrees with me :)

Anyway, to reiterate/summarize my original argument for those of you who haven't seen this thread:

"My opinion is that Kingdom Hearts is a terrible RPG with a bad battle system and a predictable and overly simplified story with lame characters. it only received it's review rating because of the inclusion of the Disney theme."

I think you need to actually play KH I and II(1) before you say that the story is simplistic. If you ask me, the story is actually quite complex for a game that Disney was involved in. Also, if anyone has a big problem with the battles, then that's your opinion since I had a lot of fun with the battles.(2)

(1) This thread is about Kingdom Hearts 1, which I played almost to completion. II was never mentioned by me since I never played that game.

And about the story, what I'm saying is that if you take out the Disney, and look at what's left subjectively, it's crap. Utter crap. I'll stray a bit off topic here, and am not directing this at you Riachu, but everybody, but IMO this is one of those games where you will think its brilliant in every way if either:

a) It's you're first RPG

b) you played it when you were really young, so it left an imprint with you

c) a mix of the above

Mostly everybody else praises it for Disney and Disney alone.

(2) Everything that I've been saying has been my opinion. I'm not touting anything as fact.

Damn, you figured out that Kingdom Hearts was my first RPG and I played it when I was young.  KH was my first serious RPG though I played around with FFT for the PS1 about a year before.  My bro borrowed it from his friend and he hated it and even thought FF sucked until he borrowed FFVII from another friend and really liked it.  And yeah, I had trouble playing it(FFT, no KH) since I kept forgeting that the action button was circle and nor X like usual.

Hey, that's not a bad thing. Legend of Dragoon was my first real RPG (If I don't include Pokemon Red) and some of the things I read about that game I feel are ridiculous, that's just the bias that comes with it being the first game that I played that pretty much got me into my favourite genre.

I think a similar thing happened with Tales of Symphonia on the Gamecube, with that game being the first RPG of countless Nintendo fans who grew up with the N64, and it also happened with Final Fantasy VII on the PS1. All three of these games are IMO overhyped to the extreme by those people while others who play every RPG that comes out are left wondering why these games are praised so bloody much.
