What's with the purple font? Is that a signature style of yours? Anyways, I'm glad to see that you might end up getting a PS3 and VC. I'm not trying to be brash, but I want to recommend Lost Odyssey above the others Best of their time though? That's quite the understatement. You still missed the point though. I was clearly referring to the fact that people are still enjoying these games even today even though they were made quite a while ago. I'm not talking about the enjoyment people had with the games when they first came out. And I was also talking about player reception rather than review scores. And when you refer to nostalgia, I'm sure that Tales of Vesperia shares at least a small chunk of its battle system and animation with the other games in the Tales series, so reviewers who have nostalgic feelings from earlier Tales games may be more fond towards ToV than they otherwise would be. Besides, out of the 5 DS JRPGs I was referring to, only 1 of them is a port (Final Fantasy IV). By the way, Mrstickball might not have made it 100% clear, but it was close to that. Let me quote his original statement: "Tales is the #1 rated JRPG this entire generation, beating out the closest competitor, Disgaea 3 by a comfortable margin." So it's unlikely that he was referring to player reception, since it would be pretty difficult for him to know. Besides that, he mentions Disgaea 3 which is a different style of RPG on a different system. There likely aren't many people who own bought Disgaea 3 and Tales of Vesperia, especially considering that neither game sold spectacularly.

Yeah. I think the purple font makes my posts a little more noticable sometimes.
If your talking about player reception, its a bit hard to understand who has had better reception when it comes to games like these on such different systems(and in some cases, original time periods.) The 360s install base is 4 times less then the DS, but at the same time the DS games are handheld in quality, some are almost direct ports(Chrono Trigger), some are refreshed games(Final Fantasy 3,4) and fit the DS in style. To me its almost like comparing apples to oranges when it comes to gamer reception, so my arguments on this is gonna be pretty weak.
The problem with vesperia is that it isn't from a line of games that changed the genre like Final Fantasy or Chrono trigger, and Vesperia itself isn't as huge a leap in games as FF4 or Chrono trigger were. None of the games were truly exceptional for their time(except Phantasia, argueably). The nostalgic feeling may be there to a degree, but even I found it so different from other Tales games that the only real blasts from the past for me while playing were extremely small things like the spirits quest from symphonia and the cameo battles.
If stickball was talking about actual scores, then he got mixed up bad. I guess its a bit hard to tell exactly what he meant by that, but you did interpret it the way most people would, so i can't blame you for that.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.
