First, I feel it necessary to state my built in bias against LBP whenever I mention it.  Yes, I am bitter that it is going to be on a system that I don't own (and won't for a very long time.)

Second, this would never happen and I don't know if I even think it should. It is just an idea I had. Here goes:

Nintedo could release a new 2D Mario for the Wii... with a level editor.

Pros:

It would appease the hardcore (It's mario! With a level editor! Who doesn't want that?)

It would be fairly simple to develop and could make a lot of money.

Because it would be based on an established model, it wouldn't be nearly as complex as LBP. Since you couldn't customize as much, a level could be designed much easier.

Cons:

Nintendo benifits from the (incorrect) assumption that they are not out for their competitors throats. This would be an obviously dirty tactic.

It may make some people feel emnity towards a childhood friend.

Sorry if this has been brought up before. I did search.

This is both a pro and a con?

That sounds like a great idea but, like you, I don't see anything like that happening.

Nintendo probably doesn't even feel threatened by LBP to be honest.
