PERHAPS, if this is not a rumor (...)
they want to match the Elite Xbox360 price (again)
it will also reduce the Xbox360 NA momentum that will be huge when Xmas will come (between Gears of War and cheapy arcade ...)
even if sony need to make money on hardware RIGHT NOW, they also need to sell games and so increase their install base is not a bad idea.
(I have said many times that a 50$ price drop was still possible for 2007)
