The same people have been saying that the PSP is dead/dying/a failure ever since late 2005 even as it's outsold everything in Japan except the DS Lite, has outsold every other non-Nintendo handheld combined, is the only console not made by Nintendo to have strong sales in all regions, and is on pace to one day pass the SNES and possible the NES.
I think it's just become cool on gaming and tech forums to hate anything made by Sony. If the PSP suddenly started outselling the DS in hardware and software, all the haters would find some other sorry reason to bash it.
