We would probably still have the Nintendo vs Sega console wars, Sega, with all the Saturn mistakes would survive because there is no way the 64 could take full advantage of that with a cartridge-based system, Sony was the one that did that... Because both systems had crazy limitations, the 3rd parties that really wanted space, sound and cheap manufacturing would chose the disc-based Saturn, even with the phreaking hard-to-develop-for hardware... The other 3rd parties would still be with Nintendo, and the wars would continue...
The Playstation, with the minor inconveniences (load times and not the best graphically) was the one that took full advantage of the crazy Saturn hardware and the cartridge-based N64, and had all the 3rd parties switch before they could breathe... And sales and distribution did the rest... before you know it, Nintendo stuck with mostly first party and a kiddish look, Sega's reputation went to the sewers, and even with the AWESOME Dreamcast they couldn't make it and they were out... Then Microsoft came in and you know the rest...
So if Sony were out, my choice would still be Nintendo or Sega...
