PETA has often taken things too far a lot in the past. I think it's fine trying to protect animals and that sends a good message to those with the intent to abuse their powers and abuse animals.
Unfortunately PETA has some strange practices. I've been to VA Beach a couple of times. They had this campaign there where they gave "Unhappy Meals" to children, which included a mock-Mcdonalds box containing animal crackers which were decapitated. This cracked me up and pissed me off at the same time.
I actually applied to work for them in the past as a Graphic Designer but backed off when they asked me to do company research on their ad campaigns and was horrified...
