Guinea pigs (cavia porcellus) are neither pigs nor from Guinea. They hail mainly from South American countries bordering the Andes Mountains, and were declared lagomorphs (the same order as rabbits) in the early 1990s. Subsequent research in recent years has put them back into "rodent" status, however.
