simultaneous release means that microsoft must of paid alot, and i mean ALOT.

Sorry but I don't buy it. If MS was had doled out the large sums of cash that PS3 fanboys claim they would have gotten, at worst, a simulatenous worldwide release. FFXIII was over budget and running behind. Square Enix looked at the lower than expected PS3 sales and decided that a multiplatform Western release would be their best chance to make the game profitable.

That is fine, but that still doesn't explain why the release has to be simultaneous

You have 3 groups of people

1. People who have to play it and will buy any console

2. People who will play it if it is on their console

3. People who will never play it

There mere fact that the game is on the 360 should be enough to get the sales they want, a simultaneous release shouldn't matter. I find it hard to believe that there would be a large portion of people who will think "pfft, I'm not buying this, the PS3 got it 3 months ago". All SE has to do is say they're "optimizing the game to best suit the 360 Hardware", then release it when it's done and reap the profits.

Now if SE manages to finish the localization of the PS3 version and the port of the 360 version within close proximity then all this becomes moot. But if there is a month to month delay, then it is very annoying

thats odd, because when 360 have timed exclusivity or ps3 version have to come later , they don't delay 360 version  release simultaniously (ex: last remant).
