It's been successful in preventing PS3 purchases, but not overall.

The 360 was at 53k as early as August 10, and the price cut was only a rumor back then. It was only confirmed on the 20th when this was posted. Anyway, I doubt there were that many in-the-know to make such a difference.

Unless they were planning on stealing the Wii's market (which is just out of reach), I'd say the 360 cut was successful, so far. If the 360 can keep the PS3 from ever seeing the light of the American market, the price cut is doing its job.
