PS2s rock. And they will continue to rock as long as there are used PS2 games for sale. They're little, they play DVDs, they play audio CDs, they play loads of great games.
PS2 games do not suck, even by todays standards. I would even go as far to say that a PS2 is still a serious impediment to the Wii's growth -- more installed base than new sales, of course, but its still holding the Wii back somewhat, in my opinion. Some 50% of PS2 owners haven't purchased *any* next gen console, to date, according to NPD. The PS2 install base continues to grow nearly as fast as the 360's does, believe it or not.
Until a cheap, slimline PS3 replaces it, AND Sony brings back BC, in 100% software form, you can expect the PS2 to keep on going. Frankly, I'm glad. If my PS2 dies, you better believe I'm buying another one! I have a LOT of awesome JRPGs to finish. =)
