They still make money off of the PS2, which actually pays for a lot of the costs of development for the Playstation 3.

Also, there are a lot of people who haven't switched over to the new generation whether it be because of price or because they simply haven't gotten around to it yet, so they are keeping the PS2 alive so that people will have that time to transfer over.

Eventually, I do think it will be possible for the PS3 to crack 100 million but not in the next few years. That wasn't a "fanboy" response. It was a simple observation based on the fact that the Playstation series tends to sell "decent" for the first few years and then will get a push.
