Let's look at the lifetime of every Playstation. The original ran from 1994/1995 to 2005, roughly 10 years, and sold over 100 million- 102 to be exact. Now, I watched as the origianl ran WELL into the lifetime of the PS2. The biggest way Sony was selling the original while the PS2 was out? They bundled them with a screen, shrunk it, and sold it as one great combo for only $50! This of course may have been how stores sold unwanted bundles too. Anyway, it sold 100 million over 10 years. The Playstation 2 debuted in 2000. It's still alive today, and I still see it in store shelves right next to the PS3. Good idea, bad idea? I'm not too sure, but I think if Sony REALLY wants to see an increase in sales of the PS3, they should think about ending the PS2 soon, and focus JUST on the PS3. The XBox is dead. The GameCube is dead. Why is the PS2 still alive? It's clearly won that generation hands down. The only thing remaining is Sony wanting to lay claim to having sold 250 million systems in only 2 generations- which is why I think the PS2 will STILL be around next year! That's good and all that, but they are really losing this generation to BOTH XBox 360 and Wii. The PS3 lifetime sales are a joke among internet uses everywhere. How can this thing only be 1/2 the lifetime of the Wii when they BOTH debuted in November 2006??? It's because Sony wants to keep raking in as much money as they can on these things, and the CEO of Sony said the PS2 lifetime will be longer than the original's lifetime. That's 10 years plus! They want to keep the PS2 alive into 2011? WHY? WHY, WHY, WHY? Just end this thing, let stores use the PS2's shelf space for PS3. They are making so many mistakes on this third generation that it's no surprise why this thing's sales are only 1/2 the sales of Wii.
