It's great that Sony has finally found a mascot for the PS3 but it seems at odds with what the PS3 currently is, a console that is priced out of the range of casuals.

LBP appeals to casuals and hardcore gamers. Casual gamers will enjoy the platforming aspect while hardcore gamers will enjoy the platforming aspect, social network, and creating content. I've seen a lot of people say it will be too hard to make levels and the user base will die fast but some of the games that have enjoyed user created content that I've played are a lot more complicated and enjoy a lot of user created material, but it looks really easy to make levels. I think creating levels will also appeal to casual and hardcore gamers. Casuals can easily make simplistic levels and put whatever stickers they want all over the place and people who have a better understanding of the game will make more complex levels and spend hours creating things.

Sony is trying to reach some casuals. I don't think the price is that big of a hinderance since parents might see it as a media hub for the living room Sony intended it to be. The family can play games like Singstar, LBP, Rockband. Watch bluray movies, and if they have anyone who really enjoys games in the family they can buy Ps3s more hardcore games. None of this will happen until theres more casual content and bluray has a higher attach rate though. As for Sackboy and Sackgirl I think they're great and can be customized to fit anyone.
