Can't really compare last gen to this gen. Games are more expensive to develop and developers want to see profit. Also no one was actively trying to take games away from Gamecube. MS has made it clear they want Sony's third party excusives so it's a bit harder for Sony to hold on to games when MS is flashing 100 million $ at the dev while Sony isn't.

If MS can pay half that for GTA4 DLC I wouldn't want to know what they pay to take away some of the Ps3 exclusives.
