That's not (necessarily) true ...
In Canada the Liberals (traditionally) received the bulk of their funding from corporations while the Conservative party received the bulk of their funding from individuals. The odd thing is that the Liberals introduced caps on the ammount an individual or corporation can donate when they introduced public funding for political parties (which was based on the percentage of the popular vote you receive); as a result of this they are not able to fund-raise nearly as well as the Conservatives, and (since they have seen declining support recently) they have been unable to receive nearly as much funding from the government as the Conservatives have.
