Call of Duty 4 is overrated

Which alternatives? Crysis looks better but is comparatively boring and Stalker is nice but definitely not as fast paced. And that's about every sensible alternative I can think off.

 

Half Life 2, Return to Castle Wolfenstien, Deus Ex, System Shock 2, etc. for SP

Counter Strike, Day of Defeat & Team Fortress for MP (Anything from Valve essentially, lol)

Part of the issue I see here is what you prefer... for example I rate a FPS more by SP than MP (as do many others) - while no doubt an equal number of people rate more by MP.

Therefore to me the SP in COD4 is pretty weak compared to Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Half Life 2 (even Crysis has a better SP) and while its MP is very, very good it doesn't eclipse the MP experience of Unreal Tournamt and others.

I also find it disappointing how weak the engine really is in terms of physics and interaction with the environment.

I mean, in the SP campaign they even manage to get away with invisible walls without much criticism - its a little strange your killing machine can't vault a two foot fence...
