Interesting post alex. Because I haven't played that many Sonic games, I don't know enough about the franchise to find a way out. But I have played Sonic Advance and Sonic Rush which were both good I think, and that gave me some idea how Sonic games should be I think.
After that I played Secret Rings, and I completely agree with you about that, the whole story should not be there and it should not play in the middle east, and the music doesn't fit Sonic nor the story line.
But nevertheless, the actual gameplay was quite good, and if they would make a game with that gameplay that plays in Sonic's Universe, I could imagine a really good game.
