Kwaad, Suppose you're right and over the next couple of months people stop buying HD-DVD and Blu-Ray captures 100% of the HD market. Laser Disc didn't have competition from a similar format yet people didn't choose Laser Disc on any large scale; most people stuck with the (much) lower resolution VHS with less features because Laser Disc didn't provide enough of a benefit for most people. Blu-Ray could easily find itself in the same market position as Laser Disc did 15 years ago; an expensive toy for audiophiles/videophiles. Most HDTVs are sold because they're large flat panel displays which are status symbols and look better in people's living room than a CRT TV. Walk into people's homes and look at their "HDTV" setup and you will find that (in most cases) their DVD player, XBox 360/PS3, and digital cable box are all hooked up using RCA ... In other words they spent thousands of dollars on equipment which produces HD images yet it is all hooked up at 480i ...
