ahah... thats funny cause even though you didn't buy car insurance you remembered the company, its mascott and what it sold. The ads work, they keep the company name and product in your mind so that if you ever want car insurance or think of changing your current insurance you'll at least think about their product. Ads don't have to sell you something, they just have to remind you that they exists.

Whats MS's BIGGEST problem?? Its reputation! Thats why they're using Bill and Jerry in humourus ads.

No matter what MS's message would of been they would of been bashed. So why not flip it and not have a message. Its like the VW "Lemon" ad shown in Mad Men. The ads are funny and pointless, but thats the point. The commercials are as gentle as possible with no clear "BUY THIS" message, because they're trying to sell you a softer company image.
