What I'm saying is, they need to reviatlize them and market them properly. They have ever genre under the sun. They need to get on the ball and crack some titles out. |
Well there is already a Buzz and Singstar out, and more coming I believe..... those two franchises together are the third biggest reason for the huge European userbase of the PS2 (after GTA and PES/Fifa).
Gran Turismo and God of War are in development, and WipEout is coming to PSN soon right?
Of the rest of your second list, 8 I haven't heard of and the rest wouldn't make a huge impact sales wise even if they were marketed correctly.
Nintendo has a number of "household names" because they have had many successive quality titles within the franchise... Most of the games you mentioned only have 1, maybe 2 titles, and were not huge hits... to build household names out of them they would need time, and quality sequels... and even then they wouldn't become famous until PS4 or PS5.

I put "household names" in inverted commas by the way because not even Nintendo has any proper household names other than Mario, ie names people other than gamers know about.
I asked my mum to see if she recognises any game based characters from some pictures, the only one she knew properly is Mario. Even Sonic I had to tell her the name before she recognised him, and the same with Lara Croft (though I suspect mainly famous from the films) She didn't know any other characters even if I said the name.
Current franchises that I believe are proper household names - Mario, Pokemon, Wii (sports/fit), Brain Training, Nintendogs, Tetris, Lara Croft/Tomb Raider, Grand Theft Auto and to a lesser extent Gran Turismo.
Not even huge franchises like Final Fantasy or Halo are actually household names.
