especially for bigger companies that release multiple games its a good investment to build one multiplat gameengine and reuse it in multiple games which you can sell to ps3, xbox 360 and PC.
yes initial expenses for developing a multiplat engine are higher, but when the engine is running you can reuse it and build all following games rather cheap for all platforms. also with the hd market split with no clear winner, you would loose out on nearly 50% of the potential customers if you go exculsive to one console.

but it will have some disadvantages for the customers since these engines will probably never be able to push each console to the absolute maximum, since the more you specialise on the strengths of the console the more you have to change when porting to the other. (which would mean increased dev costs again).

crossplat between hd consoles and wii is still be another stoy, and i don't see it happen more often than it does now.
the wii has a lot less power in the hardware, add to that the fact that simple portst with reduced gfx don't sell good on the wii, then you end at a point where you end up making 2 seperate games again.
