No console should skip a gen.

Xbox is a normal console, with a normal line up with a normal... it has nothing that stands out to make is last. Launch a new console at five years and try again.

PS needs a serious new direction if they want to be a major player again. The 10 year plan will not garner massive profit. It will only sustain. They need to cater to both old and new markets. Yes the PS3 will get cheaper, but by time it's in the price range of the new market well...

WiiToo. The Wii has changed it's position in the market. It's more like an iPod. I also believe that the GC architecture is so streamlined that's why became the Wii with more horsepower. This means that the next console will also continue to use the excellent architecture. With these to factors around the Wii it may shift into the an iPod or Game Boy like sales trend. Evey few years a new and improved Wii will come out that is a step better than the last. This means that the price may actually come down depending on the tech used. I could actually live with a 2 year console priced at about $100(unlikely).

How does the WiiToo relate to the PS3. When WiiToo comes out it will have the new market and hype of the right time for a new console. What this comes out too with figurative numbers is that By time the PS3 sells the equal of the Wii(10 years) the WiiToo will have also sold the apx equal of the Wii if not even more. That's 2 consoles of profitbale hardware sales more than PS and Nintendo will have held onto the market psyche more than the PS.

No console should skip on the 5 year cycle.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
