They are interested in technology that enriches their lifestyle. The cassette tape was inferior to the home devices at the time, but it did allow the Walkman. The CD replaced the cassette tape not just because it was better quality, but it was much easier to listen to music (pick the track and you go! No re-winding). CDs were then replaced with the MP3. The MP3 is inferior quality to the CD but the MP3 allows a more flexible lifestyle. You can do much more with a MP3 than you can with a CD. The market understood that. DVD replaced VHS not just because it was better quality, but because the DVD made watching movies so much easier. No more rewinding or fast forwarding to get to scenes (unless you wanted to). The DVD also stored better. Just as the CD got replaced by the MP3, the DVD will be replaced by a digital file. Blu-Ray and HD-DVD will not survive. Even Youtube is gaining more traction than HD-TV. Sean Malstrom seems to know what he is talking about in all of his articles on the wiikly. The paragraphs above are pasted from an article dated november 20, just read it and look how he has seen what is happening right now with this "console wars". He has very good points and delivers lots of facts which make him credible.
I wanna say 3 things. 1. BluRay has already won. Every 3BluRay movies sold... You get 1HD-DVD. The gap is growing. 2. Why do people go to the movies? To see the movie in ultra high quality on a stupid big screen. HDTV (1080p) is basically the same as a movie theater. (some people have said it is MUCH lower... I say it is higher) 3. In refrence to 2. If you want a STUPID big screen. a 40inch 1080p TV, you can sit 24inches. (2feet, your legs are almost under the TV) from it, and it looks FINE. I hate SDTV. It looks so flat, bland, colorless.
