From what I've seen of Mass Effect, citizens of the future are portrayed as thin, muscular overlords. That might be a more accurate representation of the future than Wall-E, or it might not be. I think that resources will be more spread out over the world, so it's unlikely that there will be a future of a select group of overly-lucky few. Wall-E was, in itself, an extreme exaggeration of western culture that has no basis in reality.
