What to expect in the next generation of consoles.

OT: So from what I gather the next gen console wars will bascially be a reapeat of the current one?

I disagree, I think the PS4 or whatever it is called will be sold alongside the PS3, but the PS4 will be marketed as the affordable, casual freindly Wii-Like one, while Sony will keep the PS3 on the market to satisfy its core gamers and push the Blu-Ray format.

Can you imagine, Sony could have the 2 consoles on the market, with 1 brigning in bags of cash and the other using that cash for its game development and loss recuperation.

As for Microsoft I think they will go the more Media Centre and digital distibution route. With more compatability with PC's running Microsoft's OS. I also think Microsoft will be the 1st to ditch tradtional physical media and go full digital download. Why? They have always been primarily a software company, and if they could find a way to make Xbox 720 games combatible with Vista or whatever the next one is, then they could really take a huge share of the PC gaming crowd and make their game more accessbile to a wider audience.

Finally Nintendo, they always follow a pattern of Revolution then Perfection with their consoles, since the Wii was the Revolution, then the Wii2 will be the Perfection. The shortcomings of the Wii will be mostly solved, with stuff like larger internal memory, rechargable batteris for the WiiMote, HD graphic capability, WiiMotion+ built in. Nintendo is not known for killing of its consoles prematurley (GBA exeption) so it will likely be a while till we see the Wii 2.

And those are my thoughts.
