Add on the fact that games apparently cost more to develop for HD systems, which means you need to sell more copies to make your money back. If 3rd parties weren't interested in a console that sold between 20-30 million, for a console that has development costs 2x that of previous gen, you need a lot more consoles out there (or at least a much higher attach rate).
